Commissioned by Stichting De duvel en z’n ouwe moer, I made 200 of the 900 portraits for the project Gekomen om te blijven — a city-wide celebration of Utrecht’s 900 years of city rights.
Nine hundred Utrechters, past and present. Each with their own reason for coming and staying. The portraits were printed as posters and distributed across all ten districts of the city, each carrying a QR code linking to the subject’s spoken story. The work was shown in an exhibition at Het Utrechts Archief, and five audio tours guided visitors through the city’s stories on foot. The project closed with the sealing of a time capsule, to be opened in 2122, when Utrecht marks a thousand years of city rights.
